Today I was marveling at the nearing completion phase of the Port Coquitlam railway overpass project at Coast Meridian. This near 100 million dollar project will link up the North and South sides of Port Coquitlam eliminating the bottlenecks at the Shaughnessy railroad underpass and the Mary Hill Bypass.

The massive changes and reorienting of the road network are mind boggling. The most obvious change that this overpass project has forced is noticeable at the Coast Meridian and Lougheed Hwy where the Tim Hortons and PoCo Inn and Suites have had significant changes to their access and sites.
This project will connect the rapidly growing neighborhoods north of Lougheed highway such as Riverwood with downtown Port Coquitlam and the southern neighborhoods of Citadel and Mary Hill. Access to the Trans Canada highway via the Mary Hill bypass will be a breeze and the mega-project that is the new industrial park east of the Costco on Ottawa street which will have its own access to the Mary Hill bypass by the Pitt River Bridge, when completed, thus not forcing truck traffic to compete with passenger travel over the Coast Meridian CPR Railroad overpass.
The impact on Port Coquitlam real estate can not be denied. Port Coquitlam will be an even more desirable place to live, a city without much developable land can only go one other way...up! Look for even more apartment construction in the following years.
