What an exciting end to the Summer with Disney Channel's (Family Channel in Canada) filiming a new Debby Ryan movie, Shrinking Violet here in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.  Thats the working title and the name of the children's novel it is based on, but do not be surprised if you see the title Radio Rebel used when it goes to air.  Debby Ryan is a 'Tween sensation following in the early footsteps of such stars as Brittney Spiers, Selena Gomes & Miley Cyrus.  Ask your tweens, they will all know her from her new series Jessie and from her years on Suite Life of Zach and Cody.  The movie filmed mostly in Maple Ridge at a local highschool and up on Thornhill Heights, in the real estate neighborhood of Albion.

Lions Gate Films, well known for so many theatrical releases including the now playing Conan the Barbarian remake and the upcoming 'tween' blockbuster The Hunger Games is filiming their new comedy Gay Dude in the Albion real estate neighbourhood of Maple Ridge.

Gay Dude stars some very well known actors including the star of TV sitcom Parks & Recreation actor Nick Offerman playing Parks and Recreation Director Ron Swanson.  Dakota Johnson, daughter of Don Johnson & Mellanie Griffith, who had a role in The Social Network, Dreama Walker who played Clint Eastwood's grand daughter in Grand Torino and my favourite Nicholas Braun who is known for Sky High & Princess Protection Program.

The film was being shot on the street and in a home in Thornhill Heights here in Albion, the shooting here featured Nick Braun both days and we got to see a lot of him and Dakota.  Nick Offerman was also spotted yesterday.  Braun was a real down to earth guy, he was shooting basketball with the local kids on our hoop and took lots of time to introduce himself to all the neighbours, shake hands and sign autographs for all the kids.

This highschool comedy is about two guys who make a pact to lose their virginity before prom but find their friendship tested when one of them comes out of the closest.

Taking the Virtual world of Social Media and making real life connections is the penultimate step for all members of the local Twitter community.  This last Friday @myMapleRidge (Andrea Walker) of www.mymapleridge.ca organized the second Maple Ridge Tweetup at the Lava Lounge Restaurant in Maple Ridge real estate.

Remember the good old days when a service station sold gas and provided services like air and water?  I do and up until last week I, in the very least, still received the Free Air from the local Gas Station.

Of late I had a slow leak in one of my front tires and had been filling it every few days at the local Maple Ridge 7-11 Gas Bar at the corner of the Haney By-pass and Lougheed Highway. Imagine my surprise when I was confronted with the new coin operated air hose system requiring a $1.00 coin to fire it up!  I was infuriated and immediately left deciding I would try other gas stations along the way.

Now I didn't hit every single gas station in Maple Ridge real estate but I did drive into another 7-11 and a Petro Canada to discover that they also were charging a Buck for tire air.  I eventually stopped by the Chevron in west Maple Ridge on Lougheed Highway where Free Air was still Free!

So if you are looking for proud purveyors of tire air and want to pay $1.00 in your hour of desperation struggling with a flat tire please check out these fine retailers of compressed air:

If you are like me and feel that you pay enough already to Gasoline Retailers and the fact that you have to put the gas in your car yourself, wipe your own windshield and check your own oil then please give Chevron in Maple Ridge your patronage or other gasoline retailers that you discover with an assemblage of a conscience.  If these retailers actually put the air in the tire for you I could understand it but this is just ridiculously cheap and offensive. 

I know what some of you are thinking, some gas stations have had an Air for Charity program, this isnt what I am talking about.  In that case it is a donation and you can still get the air for free if you are stuck.

I would like to suggest to these struggling retailers some other possible revenue centres to help maintain their profitability and further alienate customers like me:

• Pay toilets
• Pay Squeegee
• Pay paper towels
• Extra charge for a receipt
• A priority access lane with a yearly fee
• Extra charge during peak hours
• Late night surcharge

Last week, in the afternoon, we were paid a visit by a family of Black Bears.  I had heard that there was a mother with three cubs wandering around but they had eluded my site until now.  What a cute family they make, I have seen 2 cubs many a time but three!  The runt of the litter is not even black, he is very much brown as the video shows, so much so that I would mistake him for a Brown Bear cub. 

Brown Bears are much more aggressive and dangerous to humans then the Black Bear, more along the lines of the Grizzly Bear.  Black Bears are not an unusual site in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley real estate areas of British Columbia and the Albion / Thornhill neighborhoods of Maple Ridge are no exception but a Brown Bear would be a shocker in these parts.

These bears appear healthy and well fed and should pose no threat to humans unless you go out of your way to provoke or corner the animals.  I can not say the same for my nieghbors vegetable garden which the mamma was ravaging but better that then the garbage cans.  Enjoy the videos and feel free to click on the above link to search for homes for sale in Maple Ridge.
